Tilo ngwana Rashaka Mokgopo
The time is 20:30 on Tuesday 17 February and a new telenovela which has entered into its second week is playing on SABC 1. Millions of South Africans are glued to their television screens watching yet another gripping episode of the KZN based production, Uzalo.
Only a few minutes into the show, the character of CG appears on our screens. CG is a typical gay man. He is lively and energetic. But over and above, CG likes attention and he will do everything to make sure his presence is noticed or felt.
‘Everything’ means ‘everything’. It can’t be that vague. If it means adding up extra spice to sound out of tune so that his voice can stand out among his choir peers, so be it- CG will easily pull that stunt. He’s a go getter. When he wants something, he goes for it. He refuses to back down.
After last night’s episode of Uzalo, many people were left wondering who the talented guy that has brought so much zeal and amusement on television is. Mr TV Police can’t deny it- the guy has the Somizi Mhlongo’s vava-voom spirit. Whether you like him or not, his energy will make you laugh in a nice way.
The character of CG is played by Khaya dladla from KZN province. His profile says he’s a performing artist, and can sing and dance as well. He went to Brettonwood High School and later enrolled at a college to study marketing and media related courses.
Mr TV Police would like to wish this new promising talent in our television industry the best of luck. Grow your career my dear. We want to see you enjoying a lot of screen time, not because you are from KZN and have healthy dreadlocks, but because you got talent and talented people like you ought to have a space in our industry.
Any rational human being who understands the decorum of the entertainment industry will agree with me that you are the next “it boy” of Mzansi, if you maintain the hype of course. Keep the fans singing your praises, offers will come pouring in. That’s how it works.
