Probably for the first time in 18 years, SABC 2 lead soapie, Muvhango is now the leading soapie in South Africa in terms of audience ratings. This means that the Duma ka Ndlovu created soap opera has beaten the likes of Generations the Legacy, Skeem Saam, Rhythm City and Scandal! among others to secure the top position in the soapieville.
Ka Ndlovu, who was visibly excited or rather in a justified bragging mood, took to facebook to share the good news with the fans and supporters of Muvhango. He hinted out that it was inevitable Muvhango would one day become the top soapie in the land when he said ‘it is official’.
“News from the SABC and the official ratings agency is that it is official, MUVHANGO is South Africa’s number 1 soapie in terms of audiences. We are sitting on top of the South African soapie world.
“Who would have thought that the Venda language, the smallest of the South African languages, and one of the most marginalized (well not anymore) could dominate the South African television fraternity, with a soapie that is watched by more than 6 million people?”
Ka Ndlovu went further to pledge to fans that the Muvhango team would continue bringing engaging and exhilarating storylines.
“South Africa we shall continue to write stories that go to your hearts and please do continue watching your favourite soapie.”
As usual, fans always have something to say and Lebogang Jonathan Molefi was no exception. He wanted to see himself on the set of Muvhango and used the platform to express his desire. “If I can be an actor and kiss Nonny (Phindile Gwala) maan just for a day. Lmao.”
Ka Ndlovu jokingly responded and the comment could be traced back to the pay scandal that plagued Muvhango recently “Just as long as you know we don’t pay actors, especially those that just want to kiss! Lol.”
Mr TV Police would like to wish the Muvhango team the best of luck in their success. This achievement was indeed inevitable. However, he understands that audience ratings are unpredictable and fluctuate from time to time. Today you are on top, and tomorrow you aren’t and SABC 1 Generations can testify to this. I hope this accomplishment will serve as a motivation to the crew and actors to continue working hard in the midst of continually growing competition.
