South Africa’s most watched prime time soap opera, Generations, is set to return to our small screens as from Monday 1 December 2014. The soapie will resume on its prestigious 8 PM slot on SABC 1.
This means the +8 million daily viewership party for Skeem Saam is over as the Turfloop based soapie returns back to its usual 6:30 PM time slot. Skeem Saam was attracting at least +3 million viewers daily before replacing Generations. The show competes for viewers with e-tv Rhythm City and SABC 2 7de Laan.
However, it has been recorded in the history books that Skeem Saam was once the biggest show in the country beating the likes of Muvhango and Scandal! and thanks to the ‘drama queens’ of Generations for playing the staying away game when asked to report for duty.
The renaissance of Generations will see the curtains coming down on Muvhango– this because the SABC 2 Tshivenda soapie had been roped in to replace the Generations repeats on SABC 3.
Generations legacy, as the new Generations has been termed, will resurrect with some of the renowned actors in South Africa; among others are: Manaka Ranaka, Connie Ferguson and Rapulana Seiphemo.
