The last time I saw Agnes Mukwevho on my television screen was when she was leaving for Kwa-Zulu Natal to lay to rest her heartthrob culturally married husband, Dumi Hadebe.
But few months down the line, it seems fans’ wish of ever seeing Agnes again will never materialise into a reality. By the look of things, there seems to be no place for Agnes anymore in the SABC 2 flagship soap opera, Muvhango, at least that’s my own opinion.
Only yesterday, Thursday 6 February 2014, I learnt that Agnes’ position in Mukwevho Mojalefa Construction will be given to Tumelo Mojalefa, the second born of deceased MMC heavyweight shareholder, Phatudi Mojalefa.
Agnes was head of HR for the company before she filed for a family responsibility leave as she was still mourning for Dumi. At the time, the then CEO, uptight Busani Mojalefa said she can take enough time for as long as she needs it. But I was surprised yesterday to learn that Tumelo will be taking over the reigns from Agnes, whether she resigned or not, is still not known.
Tumelo, on the other hand, has made his intentions clear- he wants the CEO position currently occupied by Thandaza Mokoena. Tumelo was parachuted into the company by his step mom, Khomotjo mojalefa, who used her influence to make sure Tumelo gets the COO position but was forced to opt for a lower HR position.
With Tumelo occupying the HR position, Agnes’ role becomes less significant.
Is Agnes still part of the soapie?
One thing for sure, Millicent Mothiba is no longer the lead actor of Muvhango- the last time I checked, she was being relegated to a mere call in actor.
On Sunday 8 September 2013,Sunday Sun newspaper published the story “Agnes Jumps in bed with the enemy!” whereby it was reported that Millicent is no longer at the helm of Muvhango.
At the time, Muvhango publicist, Kgalema Mametse was quoted saying “She’s not the only one. Other actors will also follow suit. But as for her leaving the soapie, that can’t be true.”
Millicent was set to feature in Ekasi our stories’ “Black Window” and the norm of television soapies is that no lead actor is permitted to appear on a different or competing drama series.
Millicent joined Muvhango in 2006 resuming the role from seasoned and charismatic Dineo Lebakeng who portrayed the role to the best of her ability.
Is Mulalo’s PA, Musiwa, also out?
Shonisani is up in arms, she wants Musiwa’s position and she will get it- or she got it already. Another big surprise I encountered yesterday was that Musiwa is no longer Mulalo’s PA and that her position is vacant.
Does this prove true allegations that Musiwa was shown the door because of her pregnancy- or maybe she’s temporarily out for the duration of her pregnancy?
“It is alleged that directors and scriptwriters are unimpressed by her newly-found happiness and blessing. Sunday Sun understands that Jane, who started out as a call-up actor in the soapie, was given a contract as her storyline is tied to Mulalo, who is now the main focus in the soapie.
“Sources who are privy to the situation said the actress was written off after it was found that she is pregnant,” Sunday Sun reported on Sunday 25 August 2013.
Jane Mokhari, the person who portrays Musiwa said “All I can say is that Musiwa will still be on Muvhango. As for Jane, she is happily married.” While Muvhango’s publicist poured cold water on the allegations saying “those are unfounded and malicious allegations meant to derail the progress of the soapie. There’s nothing like that” they told the newspaper.
