Amidst speculations that Muvhango’s Azwindini and KK may be facing relegation or even exiting the popular Tshivenda soapies, one cannot help but notice that the gloves are off, Muvhango is getting a serious face-lift.
Over the past few months, many household names have joined the Muvhango family to add a spark onto the soapie. Seasoned actors like Siyabonga Twala, Ramie Chuene, Owen Sejake, Zikhona Sodlaka, Chomee, Atandwa Kani, Thembi Mtshali et al have joined the SABC 2 leading soapie.
But there’s more to the list, the veterans are yet come if the media’s speculations are anything to go by. During the year the Sunday World newspaper reported that Melusi Yeni, who was reportedly shown the door by the Generations‘ boss for allegedly forgetting his lines thus delaying production, was leaving the soapie for Muvhango.
A grapevine has it that there’s new Ranthumeng Mokoena in the picture, and yes, is a celebrity, a musician and actor to be precise. The role of Ranthumeng was played by Themba Nofemele who vowed not to return to the soapie, citing he was being emotionally abused while still part of the soap opera, and that some actors apparently showed no respect for him and even went to the extent of telling him that he can’t act, so he claimed.
South African female darlings, Bonang Matheba who goes by the sobriquet, Queen B and the Link presenter Lerato Kganyalo are reportedly battling for the same role on Muvhango. Lerato and Bonang are not best of friends. After Bonang was abruptly ‘fired’ from The Link, she was replaced by Lerato Kganyago. There’s always a tendency in the media to compare Lerato to Bonang, and vice versa.
A few months back Ngwako Malatji of the City Press reported that scandal prone Buyile Mdladla who dominated headlines of various tabloid newspapers and weekly magazines after he sent nude pictures and a video capturing him masturbating to several girls is also joining Muvhango as Busani’s younger brother.
Meanwhile Millicent Mothiba who’s reportedly heading for divorce with her husband in only 2 years of marriage (from february 2011) is being relegated to a mere call in actor or called to report to work when needed and “other actors will also follow suit”, Muvhango’s publicist Kgalema Mametse was quoted in the Sunday Sun saying.
