A word of mouth has it that amidst the brewing dispute between Generations actors and the show’s creator, Mfundi Vundla, over salary and contractual issues among others, one of the signature faces of Generations has dumped the popular SABC 1 prime time show.
The award winning Maggie Bennedict who became a household name through her character, Akhona Griffith-Memela, infamous for her township lingo and wena motho and Brika! phrases, has apparently dumped the show.
Reasons for her departure are not know yet but if rumours circulating are anything to go by, Maggie is leaving the most watched soapie in the land for ever growing Isibaya on Mzansi magic.
Maggie, alongside Sophie Ndaba, Menzi Ngubane, Katlego Danke, Winnie Modise and others, was part of the faction that staged a protest against Mfundi demanding their contracts be extended to three years.
Akhona is not the first principal character to leave the popular soapie this year. Early in the year, the media tycoon Mawande Mamela was given the boot over alleged diva tendencies. Then, it was reported that Nambitha Mpumlwana was acting like a diva, arriving late for shootings unprepared or even not show up at all.
Melusi Yeni who portrays the role of Phenyo also followed the suit. It was reported that Melusi was being incompetent, arriving on set unprepared that resulted in him constantly forgetting his lines. Melusi will be on our screens until mid-December.
It is still unclear as to until when will Maggie be on our small screens. Nonetheless, A re di fefere hereby wishes her all the best of luck in her future endevours.
There’s no doubt she’s one of the greatest actors in the industry and we have learnt a lot from her during her time on Generations. We believe she’ll continue being a great asset, attracting thousands of followers to the whatever production(s) she’ll be involved with!
